Once upon a time, on the night of the Cold Moon, a little witch named Ellie peeked out of her frosted window.
The snow sparkled like tiny stars, and the big, bright moon hung in the sky, casting a silver glow over the world.
But this was no ordinary full moon—it was the Cold Moon, the last full moon of the year … and it carried a special kind of magic.
Grandma Sage, Ellie’s wise and wonderful grandmother, sat by the fireplace, knitting a scarf that shimmered with the colors of the moonlight.

“Ellie,” Grandma said with a knowing smile, “the Cold Moon holds magic of endings and beginnings, reminding us to say goodbye to the old and hello to the new.”
Ellie loved the moon and its mysteries, so she grabbed her favorite hat and ran outside, bundled in her coziest cape.
The crisp night air tingled her cheeks as she looked up at the glowing Cold Moon.
Just as she was about to make a wish, something incredible happened…
From the moonlit sky came a faint jingling sound, like tiny bells dancing in the wind. Ellie squinted and gasped.

Flying across the face of the Cold Moon was Santa’s sleigh, pulled by his team of reindeer!
The sleigh sparkled as if dusted with stardust, and the reindeer soared gracefully, their hooves gliding through the clouds.
“Grandma! Grandma! Come quickly!” Ellie called, her voice full of excitement.
Grandma Sage joined Ellie outside, her eyes twinkling with delight.
“Ah, so you’ve seen it, my dear. On rare occasions, the Cold Moon’s magic becomes so strong it reveals the secrets of the sky.”
“Santa’s sleigh is blessed by this moonlight as it begins its journey, weaving Yule and Christmas magic together for all the world.”
Ellie’s heart swelled with wonder. “Does Santa use the moon’s magic to deliver presents?”
Grandma Sage chuckled softly. “In a way, yes. The Cold Moon helps guide him, just as it guides animals in winter and tides in the ocean.”
“Its light reminds us that even in the darkest nights, there’s always something shining to lead the way.”
Ellie closed her eyes and made a wish under the Cold Moon: for kindness, warmth, and a little extra magic to be shared with everyone.
As she opened her eyes, she saw the sleigh disappear into the distance, leaving a trail of sparkling moonlight behind.
The next morning, Ellie woke up to find a small package by her bedside.
Inside was a tiny bell, just like the ones she’d heard on Santa’s sleigh, and a note that read:
Dear Ellie, thank you for believing in magic. The moon and stars are brighter because of you. Love, Santa.
From that day on, Ellie always looked forward to the Cold Moon, knowing it carried not just magic, but also the promise of hope, love, and light. And every year, when she saw Santa’s sleigh crossing the glowing moon, she would smile and remember the night she saw the magic with her very own eyes.
The End.

For as long as I can remember, I always wanted to be a Grandma. I was fortunate to have two wonderful grandmothers while I was growing up and I have many happy memories of each of them. Today, I live in a “Grandmother’s House” where my husband and I enjoy lots of time with our family. In addition to my role as Grandma to nine grandchildren, I am a daughter, a wife, a mother of three grown children, a sister, an aunt, a friend, a writer, an artist … and a witch.
✨Grandma’s Grimoire✨ is a collection of family wisdom interwoven with a touch of magick. Our goal is to create a living and lasting legacy that we hope will inspire our future generations as well as anyone who is drawn to it.
